Deep in the abandoned sub-levels of a dying hive city, a penitent combat servitor wanders alone — a barely sentient weapon stripped of identity and loaded with killing rage. Its handlers dead, its purpose lost, it stalks the dark corridors searching for something to kill or something to end its existence. When it encounters a nine-year-old girl fleeing horrors of her own, an impossible bond forms between the child who has lost everything and the monster that cannot remember what it was. Together they navigate the dark, each saving the other from a different kind of oblivion.
